Michele Ciccazzo, Ph.D., RD of the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, was named number 48 in MphProgramsList.com’s top 100 Awesome Deans of Public Health. This national ranking of public health deans allows students who are considering a degree in public health to learn more about the caliber of leadership in different public health programs. Dr. Ciccazzo, a Registered Dietician, was one of the founding faculty members in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition when Florida International University admitted its first students in 1972. She has been Interim Dean of the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work twice, and has also held the position of Interim Vice Provost, as well as numerous other administrative positions.
As Dean, Dr. Ciccazzo has overseen some of its most important milestones in the history of the Robert Stempel College, and is popular with students and faculty. The College she oversees ranks 23rd nationally in NIH funding among schools of public health and is a leader in educating minority public health students. In July, Dr. Ciccazzo oversaw the groundbreaking for a 67,000 square foot building that will house the College. The new facility is designed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and is uniquely suited to house the only accredited college of public health that includes disciplines of social work and dietetics and nutrition, as well as the five core public health departments.
