I am delighted that you are considering a career in public health, nutrition or social work. I am especially pleased that you are considering pursuing your education at Florida International University. Miami serves as a major international hub for commerce, education and travel and with its rich population diversity serves as a unique geographical location for our university. The unique characteristics of the greater Miami metropolitan area provide a perfect location for our mission of community service and engagement as it relates to our focus on education, research and professional practice.
The Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social work is unique among the nation’s accredited schools of public health in its interdisciplinary structure which combines the five major disciplines of public health in partnership with the disciplines of nutrition, dietetics and social work. This special blend of disciplines and programs afford us the opportunity to better explore and understand the interrelatedness of social, biological, environmental and cultural determinates of health and well-being. We strongly strive to reflect the diversity of the greater community so as to maximize our understanding and effectiveness in providing cross-cultural health and mental health services in today’s heterogeneous mix of cultures and languages.
